Nutrien’s education programs are an unparalleled offering in our industry, creating interest and adoption by educators and community groups worldwide, and reaching millions of students to date.  

Our programs are offered for FREE and are curriculum, science, and inquiry based. By partnering with educators, industry experts and agricultural non-profit organizations to improve and support implementation, the programs remain unbiased, extend reach, and continue to be evolutionary, ultimately achieving the greatest impact possible for students and educators.

Nutrien's Education Programs

Seed Survivor

Elementary students learn how to grow healthy plants and the importance of agriculture. 

  • Reaches approx. 100,000 students annually
  • Six displays tour North America year-round: One 35x35 foot exhibit visits large state fairs, two mobile classrooms visit registered schools with presenters who deliver student presentations and three 10x12 foot displays visit community events (displays are in SK, AB, CO)*
  • Activities (in-class and virtual options), games, videos, and more for grades 1-6 available online

Caring for Our Watersheds

Students research their local watershed, identify an environmental concern, and come up with one realistic solution in this environmental contest. 

  • Community judges select the top 10 proposals to compete in final competition for cash prizes 

  • Community partners help students turn their ideas into reality 

  • Implemented nearly 600 student-led action projects since 2009 

  • Eight contests located in Canada: Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba; USA: California, Colorado, Ohio, Chesapeake Bay Watershed; and Argentina: San Antonio de Areco Watershed 

  • Typically offered for Grades 7-12

Journey 2050

Grades 7-12 students experience agriculture like it’s never been taught before in this school program on world food sustainability. 

  • Up to seven-hours of flexible learning on key sustainability topics. Teacher lesson plans (for delivery in-class or online), student eLearning options, and guest speaker* opportunities available 

  • Students explore sustainable agriculture and make inquiry-based decisions to see the ripple effect on social, economic, and environmental factors 

  • Farm families from around the world guide students through interactive games such as an online farm simulation and career avatar

Farmers 2050

This free farm game is fun for all ages. 

  • Based on real agriculture, players grow crops, raise livestock, craft and sell goods 

  • Players participate in team-based challenges to win special prizes in the game 

  • Some challenges are for fun and some showcase real-life donations

This free game showcases the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Nutrients for Life Virtual Reality

This Nutrients for Life Virtual Reality game is completely immersive and educational. 

  • Players virtually farm and apply nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and water to a field based on 4R Nutrient Stewardship (Right Source, Right Rate, Right Time, Right Place) 

  • Each round is 90 seconds 

  • Requires an Oculus Headset for the immersive VR experience but you can play a desktop version at
